The rest of this site is a number. This is the part where we say why the number matters. The plant is older than agriculture, the receptor it fits is older than the plant, and the law that decides which of it we are allowed to sell you is seven years old and rests on a single decimal. Written to be read, checked before it was written, and free of anything we cannot stand behind.

Science & the body The Body Was Listening The lock was fitted long before the key arrived. In 1964 two chemists in Israel worked out the structure of THC. Asking how it worked took thirty more years and turned up something nobody was looking for: a signalling system already running inside us, with its own molecules, one of which was named for the Sanskrit word for bliss. The plant did not invent the feeling. It found a door that was already there, and the door is old enough to be present in animals with no brain at all. One of this plant's two names is two and a half thousand years old and has passed through Greek, Latin and Linnaeus essentially unchanged. The other is ninety years old, is Mexican-Spanish, and was written into American law by people who wanted the plant to sound foreign, so that a drug already sitting in the pharmacopoeia would not be recognised as one. Names are policy. Read → History & archaeology They Burned It at a Funeral Smoke was never the by-product. Smoke was the point. The oldest chemically verified evidence of anyone smoking cannabis is about 2,500 years old, and it was not found at a party or a market. It was ten wooden braziers in a cemetery high on the Pamir Plateau, the stones inside them burnt, the residue carrying the signature of combusted THC, placed in the tomb as equipment for the occasion. The American Medical Association sent a man to Congress in 1937 to argue against prohibition, and he was effectively told to sit down. Thirty-three years later the plant became Schedule I. Then in 2018 a farm bill drew one line, 0.3% delta-9 THC by dry weight, and accidentally created the entire product category this shop sells. For five years, in a seventeenth-century house on the Ile Saint-Louis, Gautier, Baudelaire, Dumas, Balzac, Delacroix and Nerval ate hashish paste supplied by a working psychiatrist and wrote down what happened. It produced the first real drug literature in the West. It also produced Baudelaire's book arguing against the whole enterprise, and we quote that part too. Nobody writes this piece except a price-comparison site, because nobody else has read this many lab reports in a row. Every certificate contains a sum that has to come out right, which makes it possible to catch a bad one with arithmetic.
